What is the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty?

The Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty is an assurance program from Shell Rotella that provides the consumer with coverage should they ever experience an oil related failure associated with Shell Rotella. Your vehicle’s Listed Engine Parts will be covered against lubrication caused failure from the time you were eligible for this Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty program as follows:

  • Up to 10 years or 500,000 miles (whichever is first) – if you exclusively use Shell Rotella® T6 full synthetic engine oil.
  • Up to 10 years or 300,000 miles (whichever is first) – if you exclusively use Shell Rotella® T4 Triple Protection 15W-40, Shell Rotella® Gas Truck & SUV or Shell Rotella® T5 synthetic blend 10W-30, 10W-40 engine oils.


Is there a charge for the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty?

NO – it’s FREE with purchase of Shell Rotella® heavy-duty diesel engine oil, in the service classification and viscosity grade that is appropriate for your vehicle as recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.



How do I apply for the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty?

What kind of vehicles and size of vehicles are covered by the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty?

This Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty only covers Class 1 – Class 8 vehicles with heavy-duty diesel engines used in on-road applications with a gross vehicular weight of 80,000 pounds or less that you own or lease, and which have been driven 50,000 miles or less when you first used an eligible Shell Rotella® engine oil and whose manufactured date is within the last 24 months of your first use of an eligible Shell Rotella® engine oil.



Are leased vehicles covered?

If the Eligible Vehicle is leased, it may be covered, but only if you are an individual, or a professional association or a professional corporation, and are primarily obligated for repairs and maintenance.



Do fleets qualify for the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty?

Fleets can qualify for the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty program as long as the they meet the qualification requirements set by the program. Vehicles used, registered or leased for off-road, agricultural or competition purposes do not qualify for the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty.



Do vehicles with newly replaced or rebuilt engines qualify for the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty?

No. This Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty does not cover vehicles with rebuilt or replaced engines.



I use synthetic engine oil; am I still required to change my oil as often as my owner manual states?

YES – one of the main functions of engine oil is to remove contaminants and combustion by-products from the engine by holding them in suspension. Although synthetic engine oils are designed to provide better protection under extreme heat and heavy loads, any oil will reach a saturation point where it can no longer hold the contaminants and protect the engine from them.



Should I follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for changing the oil and filters?

Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty requires you to change your vehicle’s engine oil and oil filter at least as often as recommended by the vehicle’s manufacturer.
Replace your vehicle’s air filter and air cleaner element at least as often as your vehicle manufacturer recommends, and maintain your vehicle’s emission control system in accordance with your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.



Is the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty transferrable?

This Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty is transferable. You can transfer this Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty before your vehicle has been driven 75,000 miles, but only if the person you transfer it to has copies of your receipts or can prove your compliance with the terms of the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty. You must start the transfer process via the Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty website.

I did not follow the oil change requirements specified in my owner manual; does this mean my Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty is void?

Yes – to maintain warranty coverage you must change your vehicle’s oil and oil filter at least as often as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. You must minimally follow the service requirements stated in your owner’s manual. If you have chosen to change your oil more frequently, then your coverage under this program could still be valid. However, if you have exceeded the stated service requirements than you would void your coverage.



I am missing a few of my oil change receipts from my records and am unable to obtain copies. Does this mean that my Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty is void?

Yes – The retention and legibility of your service/purchase receipts is important. If you have a claim, you must be able to show that you used Shell Rotella® engine oil, and satisfy all other requirements, before you will be eligible for reimbursement under this Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty. Please store your receipts in a safe place. Omission of any receipts may result in a claim being denied.
